Part of our Suli Bayan series, named from the Tagalog for essence, suli, and community, bayan, for the shared craft in every piece.
A large tote handwoven from tikog in deep black palm, a wild grass native to the Philippines. The fibre is harvested and dried, then dyed and flattened, a process known as bayo, and woven by hand by Filipino women, with tikog leaf detail and a round rattan handle. Light and roomy, made for beach days and bright errands alike.
Made by hand by artisans in the Philippines, whose skills have been passed down through generations and whose time is honoured fairly. So no two are quite alike.
