The shell is found first, then coaxed clean. It is soaked until the sea loosens its hold and the mud and salt drift away, then polished slowly until its lustre returns.
Made slowly, by hand, by artisans in the Philippines, whose skills have been passed down through generations and whose time is honoured fairly. For the evening, and the years after it.
